Don’t you just love the flavors of Greek foods?
I love the lemon, the dill, the red onion, and more.
Basically if it has the word “Greek” attached to it, I want in. This year, in an attempt to eat better, and stay on top of meals so I don’t feel as much need to snack, or binge on junk, I have started making some meal prep bowls.
One of the ones I made was this Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls from Damn Delicious. It was delicious. I made it a few more times, and changed it slightly by adding a few things to the marinade, etc. But I loved it so I had to share it.
How to Make Greek Chicken Bowls
So these meal prep bowls have really come in handy for that as well. As well as these Italian Chicken Meal Prep Bowls or these Salsa Verde Taco Meal Prep Bowls.

This Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowl basically consists of three recipes in one.
- You have a marinade for the chicken. It is a super simple to make marinade, that offers great flavors in as little as 20 minutes. I loved how flavorful this chicken turned out.
- Then you have the cucumber salad. It is a pretty simple recipe that utilizes fresh cucumbers, lemon, and seasonings. I could eat a big bowl of this by itself.
- Last, there is the tzatziki, which I think just brings the whole dish to life with the fresh flavors, and smooth creaminess.
The chicken is tender and juicy, the veggies fresh, and the flavors are awesome. I was worried the cucumbers wouldn’t stay crisp, but if you use the English cucumbers, they stay crisp for a few days in the fridge.

Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls
The recipe makes six of these great Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls.
I like to eat one the day I make it, and then use the rest for lunches for the husband and I for the next few days. It is so nice to have a lunch ready for me, and not have to try and come up with what I am going to eat.
My daughter, who is in elementary school, and loves Greek inspired food as well even asked if she could take one of the Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls to school for lunch.
And the great thing is I could say yes because they taste great cold.
I like to eat them chilled.
But if you want, you can heat the chicken and rice portions up before eating, or cook this fresh, and eat day of, while the chicken is still hot.
You could also split the salad and chicken and rice into separate containers if you want to reheat!

I hope you enjoy Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls as much as we do!

Meal Prep Tips and Ideas For Greek Chicken Meal Prep Bowls
- Each meal is approximately 500 calories according to the calculator I used, double check for accuracy as I do not regularly calculate calories.
- I used Rubbermaid 4 cup containers (reusable), but you could also use divided or separate containers like these to make reheating chicken easy. I love these because they are divided into 3 compartments, are washable (dishwasher safe) and reusable, and come in black or green, so I can make one with more garlic for me and less garlic for the husband, and we can know which is which.
- For additional meal prep, check out this cookbook featuring 100+ ideas or try this recipe for ITALIAN CHICKEN MEAL PREP BOWLS or TACO MEAL PREP BOWLS
- I loved this meal prep lunch bag for keeping things cool and organized.
- Meal prep with multiple people and swap to avoid eating the same thing all week.
- This meal is best within 3 days, but is good up to 5 days.
- This does NOT have to be a meal prep, it also serves as a delicious family dinner option!
- Start your brown rice in a rice cooker, or use something like these Ready To Serve Rice Bowls to speed up meal prep.
How Long Do Greek Chicken Bowls Last?
Keep the bowls in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Store the tzatziki in a small separate container and add it the day you eat, so the bowls stay fresh.
Can you freeze them? The chicken and rice freeze well. The cucumber salad and tzatziki do not, so make those fresh and add them after thawing.
Easy swaps: Use quinoa or cauliflower rice instead of brown rice, or chicken thighs instead of breasts.

Greek Chicken Bowls (Meal Prep Easy)
Video
Ingredients
Greek Chicken
- 2 pounds Boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup Olive oil
- 1 Tbs Garlic minced (up to 3 Tbs if you love garlic)
- 1/3 cup Fresh lemon juice
- 1 Tbs Red wine vinegar
- 1 Tbs Dried oregano
- 1/3 cup Plain Greek yogurt
- Kosher salt and black pepper to taste
Cucumber Salad
- 2 English cucumbers peeled and sliced
- 2 Tbs Lemon juice
- 2 Tbs Olive oil
- 1 Tbs Red wine vinegar
- 1/2 Tbs Garlic minced
- 1/2 tsp Dried oregano
Tzatziki Sauce
- 1 cup Plain Greek yogurt
- 1 English cucumber finely diced
- 1 tsp to 1 tbsp Garlic minced, adjust to your taste
- 1/2 Tbs Dill weed or 1 Tbs fresh dill, chopped fine
- 1 1/2 tsp Fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp Lemon zest
- 1/2 tsp Chopped fresh mint optional
- Kosher salt and black pepper to taste
The Rest
- 3 cups Cooked brown rice
- 1 1/2 pounds Cherry tomatoes halved
- 1/2 cup Red onion slices
Instructions
- In a large plastic zip bag, combine olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, oregano, greek yogurts and salt and pepper. Massage to mix.
- Add chicken into the bag. If your chicken breasts are thick, pound them to an even 1/2 inch or slice them in half horizontally first so they cook quickly and evenly.
- Massage to make sure chicken is full covered and marinate for at least 20 minutes, up to 12 hours.
- Drain the chicken from the marinade, discarding the marinade.
- In a skillet, heat some olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken when it is hot, and cook, flipping part way through. Cook approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Cooking time depends on thickness and size of the chicken. Cook until internal temp is 165 degrees.
- Remove from pan, and let cool.
- Once cool, cut into bite sized pieces. Just make sure you let it cool, or all the juice will run out.
- Meanwhile, make cucumber salad by chunking the cucumbers, and tossing in a bowl with the lemon juice, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, and oregano. Set aside
- Make tzatziki sauce by combining the Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill weed, lemon juice, lemon zest in a small bowl; season with salt and pepper. And add mint (optional)
- Refrigerate while assembling your bowls.
- Cook brown rice according to package directions. When finished cooking, divide between meal prep containers, 1/2 cup in each container, halve cherry tomatoes, and mix with red onion slices. Divide amongst the bowls.
- Top with chicken, cucumber salad, and some tzatziki sauce.
- Keep for 3- 5 days in airtight container, serve cold!
Notes
The marinade should be drained off, you don't want to eat all that garlic, just use it to flavor your chicken.

I would like to know the nutrition info, where can that be found?
Rachael says
I do not provide it, but you could use a free service like myfitnesspal.com to put in ingredients and calculate it. Thanks
Pam says
The recipe was a little confusing because 2 different ways of saying tablespoon; tablespoon and Tbs. Did you mean Tbs to mean teaspoon?
Kat says
I’m confused with the TBS and tablespoon too. I’m pretty sure they’re the same, but 3 TBS of minced garlic is a lot. Please clarify Rachel! Thanks!
Sofia says
Ladies, Tbs= Tablespoon and tsp = teaspoon. With regard to the garlic, her note states: Adjust to preference.
Deni says
Teaspoon = tsp
Tablespoon = Tbsp
Rachael says
Correct, thank you!
Melissa says
I calculated to be about 500 calories for each container—if you divide into 6 containers.
Rachael says
Thanks for figuring that out and sharing it!

How did you get 600+ calories!?
The damn delicious website states 481 calories per serving?????

What size bowls do I need.
Rachael says
I used Rubbermaid 4 cup rectangle containers, You can get them on Amazon here: http://amzn.to/2jng5Sd #affiliate
Becky Edwards says
Is this intended to be reheated or more of a cold salad? Does reheating make the rice/tzatziki wonky?
Sara Anders says
The commentary says to eat cold, but I’ll probably do 2 smaller containers per meal for my family as not everyone prefers it cool. Have one container for the rice and chicken and a 2nd for the veggies and tzatziki.
Looks yummy and I’m looking forward to assembling these this week.
Rachael says
That is a great idea! I love that it is so versatile that you can do that. Enjoy!
momoftwo says
Sounds really good. I will omit the rice and serve on pita bread.
Rachael says
What a great idea! Yum.
alex says
i do this thing with my bowls where if i want part of it cold, i either separate it into another container or i make a foil boat which i remove before heating, sometimes i’ll use parchment if i want it warmed [like mango, i know] but not hot like the rest of the food and place it back in, cover the top while the meal is still hot and it cooks itself to perfection but that’s more rare. i’m gonna try these bowls.
Becky says
The calorie difference may be that the 500 calorie estimate was done for 6 servings and the damn delicious website is 693 at 5 servings. It doesn’t explain it entirely, but the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Do you use whole or ground dried oregano?
Rachael says
dried oregano, thanks
Amber says
Could you cut the chicken to smaller pieces before cooking?
Rachael says
Yes you definitely could
Karlene says
I made this for lunches this week and it is delicious. I did not follow the recipe exactly but I will definitely make this again.
LaToya says
Great recipe! I made for lunch at work and it tasted delicious cold, did not need to be reheated. It does have a strong (but good) smell. Every time I ate my coworker’s commented on how good my food smelled
Britney says
Can you bake the chicken instead?
Rachael says
Yes, you certainly can. Bake until the internal temp is 165 degrees
Stephanie says
What “colors” does it break down to fot 21 day fix?
Jana E says
I plan to measure mine out this afternoon into 1 red, 1 green and 1 yellow of brown rice. I may also omit the Greek yogurt in my marinade and then maybe a spoon? I will leave taziiki sauce off too.
Hollie says
Too much garlic!! I should have listened to my gut and cut the garlic quantities significantly. The finished product isn’t even edible… and this is coming from someone who loves garlic! I hate it when I waste my time and money:(
Jackie says
I never really comment on recipes, and I have to agree with you on this. I nearly gagged when I took a bite of the cucumber and the chicken. The sauce got all clumpy. It’s inedible for me and I followed the recipe to the T. I hate wasting money like this. 🙁
Nikki says
To be fair the recipe did say she likes garlic and stated you can use less. I love garlic so it tastes perfect to me! Sorry you didn’t like it but it’s probably worth it to try again if you want to use less garlic!
Joan Duce says
We just put this together and it smells wonderful…I am trying to go gluten free…I know…i am just as sick of hearing people talk about it but it’s for health reasons…anyway, I substituted Cauliflower pearls for the rice and added Feta Cheese….YUM!!! Thank you for this!
Rachael says
Good luck with your gluten free. And both those additions sound delicious. I like feta on everything!
C says
I watched the video. I sure wished I hadn’t. The recipe looked really good the parts I could see. The commercials really did take away from the video. There were way to may commercials. There were at least 5 commercials during a 2+ minute video. How crazy is that?
Rachael says
I post the videos on FB commercial free! So feel free to watch there http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558153080861 . Having ads on my site (aka commercials in the videos) is how I can afford to take the time, buy the equipment, and pay for the classes to develop the skills to provide videos, photos, and content for my readers. I am sorry the amount of commercials was excessive. I hope you can understand why they are a necessity.
Erin says
This looks delicious! Could you make the chicken in the crockpot?
Rachael says
I am sure you could.
Megan says
These look great. I was just wondering if your calorie estimate includes everything in the bowl? Rice, chicken, sauce, and veggies? Or is it just for the chicken? Thanks in advance!
Rachael says
Megan, I try not to provide nutritionals simply because it gets complicated, so I would suggest you use a free tool like myfitnesspal to calculate the calories for whatever parts you are eating. Thanks!
Lea says
I too am cutting calories and trying to make better food choices.
Although, this recipe may have a few more calories, I try to keep in mind WHAT kind of calories we are talking about.
The sugar calorie content in a vegetable vs. say cake are utilized by our body differently, so I look at those calories differently.
Also, no sugar, high pro-biotic yogurt vs. feta cheese, used in most Greek recipes, is a great low calorie substitute. Olive oil is recommended by most nutritionists for daily use, and of course, chicken is a low cal., low fat high protein meat.
In my view, this is a great vitamin packed food choice.
Rachael says
Thanks Lea! I hope you love it.
Marty says
Not trying to cut calories. Just looking for great foods that I love and I believe I’ve found it. This is it! Thanks for posting. All my favs in this recipe. Will be trying it this week and just know it will be great. Thanks again! Can’t wait to try it!
Rachael says
Thanks Marty, I hope you love it as much as we did.
Ericka says
Most infuriating recipe I’ve made in a long time. TBS, Tbs, tsp. TBS and Tbs one right after another. I’ve been cooking since I was a child and I’ve never yelled out loud. I even googled to see if there was a difference. I’m pretty sure that’s why my results aren’t great and Im pretty sure that’s why everyone’s calorie counts are different. I’m going to retry this recipe but please either explain or change the recipe.
Rachael says
Tbs = tablespoon, tsp= teaspoon

Meal bowls are great – what I love about this one is that it can be cold or hot, and that’s fantastic for school lunches! Thanks !!!
Rachael says
Thank you for taking time to comment. We love this one too. Even my elementary aged daughter likes taking this one to school.
Natalia Griffin says
I made this for this week’s lunches…SO GOOD! Couple things I was glad I did and also tips for next time. I cut the chicken in bite sized pieces before I marinated. I thought that the Tzaziki sauce was AMAZING– yum! Next time I think I will cut the cucumbers for the sauce a little smaller. I also didn’t have rice on me, but I had barley, and I actually really liked the way it turned out as an even healthier option.
Rachael says
Those are great suggestions. Smaller cucumbers is more traditional for tzatziki, so that is a great idea! Thanks for taking time to comment.
Leslie says
I noticed that dried marjoram was in the list of ingredients but not on the directions page. Is it supposed to be in the marinade? Thanks! Can’t wait to try this!
Marisol says
Thank you for this recipe. I was wondering how well in advance i can make this recipe. I do my meal prep on sunday and planning on eating this on thursday. Thank you
Rachael says
They stay good about 5 days. with the fresh stuff it kind of depends on how ripe it was the begin with. I would shoot for 3-5 days though.
Nancy says
Sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try!
Rachael says
Thank you! I hope you love it.
Tanya Tremp says
Can I freeze the chicken in the marinade to cook later?
Rachael says
Yes you definitely can!
Ahorsesoul says
Made this for dinner tonight. Dh loved the cucumber salad and gave the meal a B+. This from a man who doesn’t care what he eats so that’s very good. I did add Greek olives, dried tomatoes (in oil) and chopped avocado.
Being lazy and having some leftover roasted chicken I used that instead of cooking the chicken breast. I left out the oil in the chicken marinade and let the cooked chicken sit in the refrig in the marinade.
Made a nice gluten free meal with two more in the refrig for this week’s lunches.
I will make this again. Thanks for sharing.
Rachael says
Thank you! It sounds like you found a great way to enjoy it. I appreciate the feedback.
Dianna says
I loved this recipe! Thanks!
Catia says
I made these for last week. So so worth it!
Rebecca says
Would these do well if frozen after cooked?
Rachael says
The chicken would be fine, but you do not want to freeze cucumbers or tomatoes.
Chelsea says
Do you mix everything together when you eat or eat them sperately? I can’t wait to try this!
Melissa says
How long does
The tzaziki sauce stay fresh? I made a. Inc
Melissa says
Oops spelled it wrong ?
Rachael says
3-5 days should be just fine.

This is great, but I guess I just don’t understand how blogs work. It seems like you almost directly copied a recipe from Damn Delicious, changed a few words around, and posted it as your own. I see you’ve given credit, but how is this original? Do you do anything original, or do you just use other bloggers ideas?
Rachael says
Hi Janet. I appreciate your comment, even if it is a little rude. While I can see your concern, I wanted to share with you how I blog, and my philosophies. If you were to browse my site you would see that the vast majority of my recipes are original recipes. However, from time to time I will make a recipe from another blogger that I love, and want to share with my own readers, as they may never see it on that other blogger’s site, or try it otherwise, and it is one I know they will love. My blog is a collection of my favorite recipes, for my kids, and myself, for easy reference. For this particular recipe, it is true I adapted it only slightly. I added a few things to the chicken marinade, and used some of my own methods, but followed the rest of her recipe fairly closely. I did credit, as you noted. And always do if I use someone else as inspiration or as my source for the recipe. With food it can be tricky to ever be truly original, as often we unintentionally make very similar recipes to others as there are only so many ways to make the same recipe. I think you will find that every blogger, including Damn Delicious, uses another blogger’s recipe as inspiration or a source at some point. So to answer your question, I do a lot of original recipes. Most, in fact, but like to share good food when I find it, with any personal preference adaptations I may make, and always with credit.
Additionally, by linking to the original source, it actually helps them! It gives them good Google juice.
Larry says
I just got my hand slapped by Pinterest for “copyright infringement” for reaping this!!
Rachael says
It is definitely a mistake. Occasionally people will steal my images and try to pass them off as their own, or use them on scraper sites. I am not sure why this image is being reported. However, I am working on getting it taken care of, as obviously i am not happy about pins to my content being taken down any more than you are happy about getting a hand slap. I am so sorry this happened.
Rosemary says
Hi. this recipe looks and sounds great with the exception of one thing – THE yogurt. I do not like the taste or texture. Is there something that I could use to replace this without compromising the recipe? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME.
Rachael says
You could leave it out of the marinade. As for the tzatziki, you could buy a premade one if you prefer.
Ashley says

I was so happy to run across this. I just ordered a 12 pack of these containers for food prep like your wonderful recipe. I’m glad to see a picture of what I was thinking! Can’t wait to try it!
Heather says
Chicken part of this was really good! I butterflied the chicken breasts before marinading, then baked at 400 for 20 minutes instead of cooking on stovetop. Came out tender and with really good flavor.
Was not a huge fan of the cucumber salad though. I love lemon but was a bit too lemony/acidic even for me. Next time would probably reduce the lemon by a lot, like 2 or 3 TB instead of 1/3 cup.
Ashley says
Hi,
I just made this dish today. I liked the chicken, but I felt like the cucumber salad and tzatziki had too much lemon for me. I will definitely make again, but adjust the amount of lemon juice. Thanks for the recipe!
Rachael says
Thanks for the feedback Ashley! I appreciate it so much. Have a wonderful day.
Laura says
Do you think it would it still taste okay after marinating for around 24 hours instead of 12?
Rachael says
Yes, but if you go too long the chicken may break down and get mealy. So if you can go less I would.
Bev says
I’m curious about how long to keep in refrigerator, 5- days is a long time. We don’t usually hold left-overs that long.in our home. Is it safe to eat at 5-days?
Rachael says
We have kept them 3-5 days, but you will have to be the judge of that!
Cathy says
Yummy! I just made this for dinner and several lunches for the week! Thanks.
Rachael says
Cathy,
You’re welcome. I am so glad that you liked it. It is one of my favorites too.
Erin says
I NEVER leave reviews on blogs, but I have to say, this dish is so yummy!!! I made just a few modifications. I used soy yogurt instead of Greek because I have eliminated dairy from my diet (I miss cheese!!) and added a bit more dill to the sauce (no clue how much, just eyeballed). I made the sauce and the cucumber salad the night before so the flavors would really meld. I’m impressed! The flavor on the chicken is great as well! I’m planning on eating some leftovers on a bed of spinach with the sauce as the dressing for my lunch at work tomorrow. Thanks so much for this fab dinner!
Rachael says
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I love the alterations you have made. And good for you, I don’t think I could ever stop eating cheese! Have a great day.

This looks incredibly tasty, I’m a huge fan of greek food so I’ll be trying this out for sure.

I think the Tzatziki Sauce recipe is supposed to say “1 tsp fresh lemon juice”. As others have mentioned, one Tablespoon is Way too much.
Rachael says
Thank you! I fixed it. I appreciate it.

Make this today ! Loved it
Janet says
Made this for meal prep lunches 2 weeks ago, LOVED IT so much am making again this week, though I am doing things a bit differently and only making the chicken and rice part so that they can be frozen and will make the salad part to keep in the fridge and add in with the meal or as a quick light snack. My daughter and I are the ones that use the meal prep for our breakfasts and lunches so we are going to try to do a few different varieties of meals and freeze what can be frozen to reheat at lunchtime. Luckily the high school where she attends has microwaves in several locations.
This was really that GOOD, thanks for sharing!
Rachael says
That sounds like a great way to do it. Especially if you need to plan ahead. I love that your daughter’s school has a microwave, so convenient. Enjoy! I have a few other meal prep options on the site too you might want to check out. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Have a great day.
Sonia says
Absolutely delicious. I made it for tonight’s dinner and I will definitely make it again. The only thing I added was a sprinkle of paprika on the chicken to give it a nicer colour. The leftover sauce in the pan was so yummy I just had to wipe it up with a piece of bread. Can’t let that go to waste!
Rachael says
What a great idea. I love that extra touch, and I totally agree that the pan sauces are delicious. Thanks for taking time to comment, happy cooking!
Rachael B. says
I’ve made this before and loved it! This time I am making it for my husband as I am leaving him alone for the week while I see my family. It’s perfect for him because he has no way to access a microwave but I can put them in a lunchbox with ice to keep cool. He loves the convenience to just grab and go and since they are so healthy, he never has to feel guilty when he devours the whole thing. I bought kalamato olives and feta to add as well. He was super excited when I told him this is what I was making. Thanks again, Rachael!
Korisa says
Thanks so much for posting this recipe! My boyfriend and I made this for our lunches this week, and I’m so excited to try it! I was so excited to make this recipe for me and my husband. While it took me significantly longer than expected to prep, it was so beautiful that I didn’t even care. However, I went to eat this for lunch today and the amount of garlic in the tzatziki sauce made the entire meal inedible. I followed the recipe and noticed the note from the author regarding her love for garlic and that the 3 tablespoons for the marinade may need adjusted. I wish this note had been made on the sauce as I had no issue with the garlic on the chicken but even storing the sauce in the same container ruined the entire meal. I am very disappointed in these results.
Rachael says
I am really sorry you felt that way. I love the garlic in it, and have not felt like it was too strong on the tzatiki, but will definitely make a note for others. Thanks.
Becki says
My husband and I are starting the Flexible Diet aka Macros and this was the first recipe I pinned. I made it and OMG delicious. I ate the chicken and quinoa together hot and the vegetables on another plate because I didnt want to wait, I was not disappointed one bit! I am anxious to see how delicious it will be tomorrow once the veggies have had time to soak up the juices.
Rachael says
Becki! I am so glad you loved it, this greek chicken bowl is one of our favorite recipes. Good lick with your Macros!
Rachel says
Is peeling the cucumbers for the salad really needed? Does it improve the flavor? I want it to taste good, but I hate peeling. 🙂

Ugh… I got cherry tomatoes at the store and when I looked at the photos, they look like grape tomatoes. I actually would have rather had the grape tomatoes.
I’m making tonight, so hopefully there won’t be a huge difference.
Rachael says
I am so sorry you got the wrong tomatoes. I use them interchangeably, so I am sure it will taste great!
Meagan says
I just have to say, I have made this at least 4 times and it NEVER disappoints! I love making it in bulk and taking it with me for lunch during the work week. I did cut the lemon and red wine vinegar tremendously because I don’t much like either in my food, but I did stick with the garlic quantities (maybe even added more than it calls for) because I LOVE garlic. Thanks for posting this and giving me a recipe that I can’t seem to kick. 🙂

This recipe is so yummy and delicious. I will give it 4 star.
Shannon says
Would you reheat this for later meals or just eat it cold?
Rachael says
You can do it either way. If you want to reheat, package the chicken separately.
Michaela says
Tried these recipes out for dinner tonight! Super delicious, boyfriend loved it! I even had enough left overs for three prep meals I put in the fridge. Definitely saving this one!
John says
how do you figure one serving or bowl is worth 43g of protein
Rachael says
I used a nutrition calculator provided by my recipe card. I am not a nutritionist and don’t know how accurate it is, so I suggest running the numbers yourself through the nutrition calculator of choice.
Angela says
Wow! This looks so healthy and delicious. Definitely adding this to my meal prep this week.
Kait says
Do you eat this hot or cold? If hot, do you recommend outing the tzaiki in a seperaye container and serving cold on the warm food or
Warming it as well?
Holly says
We ate it with the rice and chicken hot for dinner last night (when I made the bowls), and then had it cold for lunch today, and honestly, I preferred it cold. It’s sooo good!
holly says
Could I cook this chicken in the crock pot all day? (I haven’t made anything with greek yogurt in the marinade like this before, so I’m not sure how that would go over.) It’s so great, but it did take a little while to put together, so crock pot meals are my go-to when working full-time.
Rachael says
I have not tried it in the crock pot before, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Just remember chicken cooks quickly and often gets dried out in the crock pot. The yogurt in the marinade helps, but I would also switch to chicken thighs instead of breasts as they don’t dry out as easily.
Mary says
Hi! Do you have a suggestion on what to replace the greek yogurt with? Do you think non-dairy yogurt would be okay?
robloxrobuxgenerator says
Very nice. i learnt everything to cook this in my kitchen also. Thank you so much to your help and video.
Heather Bowers says
so I’m new to meal prepping and wanted to see if the nutritional facts should be divided by 6 or if that was per serving. ie: 527 calories per serving (527 x 6) or 527 for the entire recipe?
Rachael says
Heather, it should be per serving, however, you will want to double check based on the brands you use, my nutrition calculator attached to my recipe card is not always accurate and it uses all the marinade ingredients, which you don’t actually consume, so it is a bit off.
Meridyth says
These sound delicious and I can’t wait to make and try them!!
Is there a way to do this in the Instant pot?
Rachael says
I am not sure, as I have not done it in the IP, but I would imagine you can use the poultry setting and just cook until cooked through.
Brittney says
Not good. Bland and dry is how we felt it tasted.
The tzaziki was good tho.
Crystal says
Inmade this for dinner tonight (except I was lazy and bought tzaziki from Trader Joe’s) and it was delicious! The chicken was absolutely delicious. We had it with the cucumbers, tomatoes and onions with hummus on pita bread. This is now going to be my go to recipe for Greek Chicken! Thank you for sharing!
crystal says
please excuse my typos lol
Terri says
Omgosh I love this soooooo much. I eat it hot or cold, good either way. The chicken is so tender. I ran out of cauliflower rice so one two of my bowls, I added 1/2 potato. It was still very good. Very easy to put together too!
Jenny Muldur says
Chicken has a very nice flavor. I let mine marinate overnight. But the cooking time was a lot longer due to the huge chicken breasts my store sells. Slicing them in half into a thinner piece didn’t help (took 40 minutes to cook) so next time I will slice them through the side to make them thinner/flatter. I cheated and used a prepackaged Tzatziki Sauce. My son, who is extremely picky, wanted to know what smelled so good and ended up eating two servings of the chicken. Will definitely make again for pre-made lunches but also for family dinner. Thanks for the recipe.
Shawna says
I diced my chicken before marinading and it cut down on some of the time. And I think it had more flavor.
Rachael says
Oh thanks for sharing the tip! Great idea.
Jen Glenn says
Off the charts good! Chicken was delicious (I used my air fryer to cook them) and the marinated cucumbers were an amazing balance to it. I was lazy and bought tzatziki at Whole Foods. Great recipe – I will be making this again 🙂
Jennifer says
I have the chicken marinating as I am typing this. I was wondering if you mix everything up when you eat it, or do you eat the chicken and rice separately? Thanks!
Rachael says
You can do it either way. Depends on your preference.
Christen says
How many servings is this supposed to be? I love this recipe and thought it used to say how many servings it was….but now can’t find it.
Rachael says
It makes 4 servings.
Carolyn says
Absolutely great! Love the chicken marinade- going to use it for wraps! My husband is going for 4th helping – I’m gonna have to roll him to bed tonight 😂. Forget about lunch, it will all be gone for dinner. ❤️ Thanks for the recipe!
Taylor says
I have made this recipe at least three times now, it’s soooo good. Thanks for sharing!
Emie says
Love this! Had a lot of fun making it today for the week and it’s so good! The recipe makes a big portion of tzatziki to my liking tho, so I might have some leftover. I love the flavours of the side salad with the tomatoes and onions! I added a little bit of feta cheese to it and it’s perfect! Will definitely make again! Thanks!
Ps.: Your website is a great discovery. I will surely follow other recipes of yours!
Rachael says
Thank you! I am so glad to have you here.
Allison says
OBSESSED with this marinade. Like my favorite way to eat chicken, period. Thank you for coming up with such a perfectly balanced recipe. Sometimes I do the bowls but other times this is my go-to grill marinade. I’ve made it with a super short marinade time and more like 8 hours: both are great!
Erin says
I am looking to prep this for the week and had a question. I would prefer to eat this cold and you mentioned that you can. My question is whether it’s safe to eat rice cold? I’d rather do rice than quinoa which I know can be eaten cold. Not sure if you feel comfortable answering that but there’s so many conflicting information on rice. Thanks for the beautiful recipe!
Tamara says
This is AMAZING! I am quite chuffed with myself right now. My super picky 10 yr old loves the tzaziki, the cucumber salad, and likes the chicken. It’s a win!
Thanks! xx
Jamie says
Can you cook the chicken on the grill, or does it have to be done in the skillet with oil? My chicken is currently in the marinade and I have the sauce and salad in the fridge! Can’t wait for dinner tonight! Thank you for the great recipe!
Erin says
Do you eat this hot or cold? I think I’d prefer it cold, but I’m not so sure about cold rice. It looks amazing either way.
Rachael says
You can eat it both ways, I usually eat it fresh hot, then cold for meal prep.
Mercedes says
So good! I followed the recipe as written, but put the chicken and dressing over green salad instead of rice. I think next time I will try baking the chicken instead, as I personally struggle getting chicken cooked perfectly in a pan.
Adriana says
I wanted to try and make this Keto friendly. Can I either substitute the brown rice for cauliflower rice or should I leave the the rice out all together?
Rachael says
You can sub cauliflower rice. no problem
Meg says
If you accidentally bought plain yogurt can you use that instead of Greek?
Cierra says
So yummy! I do think the prep takes more time than predicted, but this is such a delicious, healthy meal!
Katie says
Chicken was absolutely delish!!! Can’t wait to have these for lunch leftover!
Emily says
This recipe is so simple yet so delicious. And even better it is FILLING. I have made this countless times. My family of picky eaters loves it.
Tracey Delicato says
Love this recipe!! It’s great for lunches and saves well. Delish! Thank you!!
Rachael says
You are so welcome
Melissa says
Absolutely delicious!!
Will have this on repeat!!
Elena Tantillo says
Can you use white wine vinegar instead? Just trying to use what i have already.
Stoyan says
Instead of marinating and frying the chicken, what if you make chicken in an air fryer then shred it and add the marinade to that? Would that be fine too?
Rebecca says
This has been a regular dish in our rotation!!
I change it up and do Cauliflower rice most the time and sometimes I feel .adventurous and add banana peppers and Feta! My husband doesn’t like cucumbers I do the salad with zucchini instead! This stuff is the bomb!
Rebecca says
I commented and I think i forgot to rate!
Jenny says
Can this work with sirloin steak in place of chicken?
Rachael says
Yes, of course.
Ashley says
The pan became very watery when cooking chicken and chicken wasn’t crisp. Any suggestions?
Rachael says
Cook in batches, or salt chicken before to get rid of some of the liquid.
Emily says
Can the chicken marinate for longer than 24 hours??
Rachael says
I would not marinate longer as it can break down the chicken too much.
Evelyn says
Can this meal be put into the freezer? And then brought out later to in the month to eat?
Nikki Bellz says
Amazing. Was a huge hit with my family and so easy
Andrea says
This hit the spot and was super easy! Using for meal prep for lunches this week. I used premade sauce I picked up this week…next time I’ll try your recipe for that too.
Rachael says
Love a good short cut! Thanks for sharing.
Charlene Dunfield says
Sooo good! The kids are constantly asking me to make this! Great idea with the feta. Definitely gonna add next time.
Lenore says
Do you think substituting dairy-free yogurt would work?
Rachael says
Yes, it should work just fine.
Barbara says
I am looking forward to making this! Can I use nonfat Greek yogurt? Thanks!
Rachael says
Yes you can.
Danielle says
Could this be frozen and defrosted to eat a later date ?
Rachael says
The chicken can, but the tzatziki and the salad will not be good if frozen.
Lyndsy says
I make this recipe at least 3 times a month. I swayed from it once when I lost this one and that will never happen again. Amazing every time.
Clara says
I’m going to make this for my meal prep next week! Can the red wine vinegar be substituted with something else?
Rachael says
You could select another vinegar.
Shannon Van Horn says
My son requests this every year as his birthday meal! He just returned from deployment and this was his first meal request. Thank you!
Rachael says
I love hearing that. And I am glad he is back!
